Meteorologist Dave Dahl says showers and thunderstorms are expected to start early in the day Thursday, taper off, and then re-develop Thursday night. Highs will be around 80 degrees.

Man Escapes House Fire in St. Louis Park

Firefighters from Edina, and Golden Valley helped St. Louis Park firefighters douse a fire in a house Wednesday afternoon.  One person was inside when the fire started.

A city spokesperson said a neighbor called 911 to report smoke in a home in the 6800 block of 23rd Street West.

Hopkins Ordinance Banning Fake Firearms Takes Effect

A Hopkins ordinance banning airsoft guns and replica firearms in public places is now in effect.

The ban includes yards visible from the street or neighboring structures, according to an announcement on the city's website. The fake firearms are still permitted inside homes and private buildings.

Fire Damages Excelsior Dunn Bros. Coffee Building

A fire was reported at the Dunn Bros. Coffee shop in downtown Excelsior early Wednesday morning.

Fire officials believe the fire started around 4 a.m. and that someone broke into the business and sprayed some of the fire extinguishers, which then set off the alarm.

Only minor damage was reported.
 

3,500 Local Hospital Workers Vote to Strike

About 3,500 members of the Service Employees International Union Healthcare Minnesota voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to strike.  After two days of voting, 91 percent supported the strike option.

If the union calls a 2-5 day strike it would affect:

-Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina
-Fairview Riverside Hospital in Minneapolis
